Congratulations to Valentine Elementary School for being nominated by the California Department of Education for the National Blue Ribbon Schools award! The National Blue Ribbon Schools award honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students perform at very high levels or where significant improvements are being made in students' levels of achievement. The National Blue Ribbon Schools recognition program is part of the U.S. Department of Education's effort to identify and disseminate knowledge about outstanding school leadership and promising instructional practices.
Valentine Elementary School was nominated as an "Exemplary High Performing School." As one of only 35 outstanding public schools to be nominated from California, Valentine Elementary School has been invited to submit an application for recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School. Since its inception in 1982, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has recognized more than 7,000 Great American Schools. "We are thrilled at Valentine for this opportunity and national recognition for the hard work of our students, staff, and families. We all feel so fortunate to work and learn in a school district and community that places the education of our children as the highest priority!" said Principal Colleen Shields.
Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Dr. Gary McGuigan commented: "This nomination affirms the hard work of Valentine students, teachers, administrators, and families in creating a safe and welcoming school where students master challenging content." The U.S. Department of Education will announce the National Blue Ribbon School award recipients in late summer.
