California Standards Test (CST)
Our second through fifth grade students participate each spring in the STAR CST. The CSTs are developed by California educators and test developers specifically for California. The CST measures students' progress toward achieving California's state-adopted academic content standards in ELA- English Language Arts, Mathematics and Science. Our state content standards describe what students should know and be able to do in each grade and subject tested. You can check out the state standards at this link:
The STAR CST is administered each year in May for second through fifth grade students.
Grade 2 English-Language Arts Mathematics
Grade 3 English-Language Arts Mathematics
Grade 4 English-Language Arts Mathematics Writing Test (administered in February)
Grade 5 English-Language Arts Mathematics Science
The California Department of Education has developed a new searchable web site which features sample questions from the CST for each grade level, provides information on questions related to each of the performance levels (basic, proficient, advanced), and grade level parent guides. The Valentine staff highly recommends visiting this site. It is a great resource!
