  • TK and Kindergarten Welcome Wagon
You and your Kindergarten student are invited to the Kindergarten Welcome Wagon on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 8:15 AM. Parents and students will gather in the Kindergarten playground from 8:15-8:30 AM to meet other new families. Students will go directly to the classroom with their teacher at 8:30 AM. After hugs and cheers, parents will leave the playground at 8:45 A.M. and walk to the Little Theatre for  a TK & Kindergarten Parent meet & greet session in the Little Theatre until 9:45 A.M. Parent Orientation session for TK & Kindergarten parents will contain important information on school events and procedures. The TK and Kindergarten teachers find it very helpful to have some information on your student. If you would like to fill out this form digitally, please click on Google Form in order to fill this out online. If you would like to download, please click here for the form, print, fill out, and bring to the Welcome Wagon to give to your teacher.

  • All School Ice Cream Social
The All School Ice Cream Social will be on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at 5P.M. by the Valentine lunch court. Please join us to celebrate the beginning of a new school year. All parents, students, and staff are invited to attend.

  • Back to School Night
All parents are invited to Valentine’s Back to School Night on Thursday, August 17, 2023. This is the opportunity to hear from your student’s teacher regarding plans and expectations for the 2021-22 school year. This is a very important information meeting for essential classroom information. This is a Minimum Day for students in TK-5th grades; dismissal time is 12:30 P.M. Back to School Night is a PARENT ONLY event. The schedule for the evening is:

6:00 PM- 6:30 PM  Classroom Presentations for Special Academic Instruction (SAI) in Rooms 8 & 9
6:30 PM- 7:10 PM  Classroom Presentations for TK, Kindergarten, First and Second Grades
7:20 PM- 8:00 PM  Classroom Presentations for Third, Fourth & Fifth Grades
This is a parent only event.

Drop Off and Pick-up of Kindergarten Students
Kindergarten students may be dropped off in the morning between 8:15 and 8:30 A.M. in the Kindergarten Circle or the Huntington and Virginia Parking lots Drop-off Area.  Only Kindergarten and TK students may use the Kindergarten Circle drop off in the morning. We do not have adult supervision for students until 8:15 A.M. so it is very important that your child does not arrive before this time.  TK and Kindergarten students will walk to the Kindergarten playground in the morning where their teachers will greet them at 8:30 A.M.

When class is dismissed at 2:30 P.M. (12:30 P.M. on Minimum Days) you may wait for your child in your car in the Kindergarten Circle where a staff member will assist the student in getting into your car.  Each TK and kindergarten family will be given a colored sign with your child’s name to display in your car window.  Only cars with these signs will be able to enter the Kindergarten Circle during dismissal time.

Parents or other adults may not enter the campus at pick-up time. Please do not wait in the hallways at the 2:30 P.M. dismissal.  Intermediate grade classes are still in session. The sound from conversations travels into classrooms involved in learning activities.

TK and Kindergarten students may not wait after dismissal on campus for a sibling from either our fourth or fifth grade classrooms or from the Middle School.  This is a serious safety issue. PE is still in session until 2:50 PM so kindergarten students may not play on the playground or BigToy area- even with adult supervision- after dismissal. You must be on time to pick up your child at 2:30 P.M.  Our San Marino Recreation Department does provide after school care from 2:30 to 2:50 P.M. for families with older siblings.  You must register for this program.  For all before and after school care, please contact the San Marino Recreation Department for more information.  Their office can be reached at 626/403-2200 Monday through Thursday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

First Day Packets
First Day Packet information can be found located under News and Events and on the District Website under Parents and Students.

Our forms are completed on-line through your Info-Snap account so that we are “greener” and the forms are easier for you to fill out because they “auto-populate.”  Once you fill in a piece of information it will be filled in automatically on all the forms that require it. Info-Snap information will be mailed to you from our district office.

All information in the First Day Packet MUST be completed before the first day of school.  It is critical for us to have all contact information of your student that is accurate in case of emergencies. This emergency information is obtained through your InfoSnap registration.

We highly recommend completing your child’s First Day Packet several weeks before school starts so you will have adequate time to read our school and district policies and input information.

Volunteering

Last year, more than 41,000 parent volunteer hours supported activities and events at Valentine both in and out of the classroom.  Please attend the Volunteer Fair on Monday, August 13, 2018, 5:00 PM- 7:00 PM on the Valentine Playground to learn about and sign up for PTA programs and volunteer opportunities at Valentine.  Your involvement makes a difference.

We hope we have helped you feel more at ease about your first days at Valentine and look forward to seeing you soon.
